Hi! My name is Anna. Welcome here! Here are a few things about me.
- I am a Low German-speaking Canadian Citizen, born in the city of Nuevo Ideal in Durango, Mexico.
- Whenever I tell someone about my background, I could go on forever – there is so much to tell and I love to talk about it. But there is never enough time to explain the whole story.
- I often leave people more confused than they were before.
- I speak Low German, Spanish and English. I would love to learn French, I am working on it.
- I was never asked, but I can’t pick what I want to be when I grow up -- I love too many things.
- I work as a Low German health worker at a community health center. I love my job. I am so lucky I get to do a bit of most things I love: learning new things, helping people, speaking all the languages I know, cooking, shopping, demonstrating recipes, being a leader, and dressing as I please.
- I love that I am free to dress however I please. I don’t feel guilty for not wearing the Mennonite dress anymore.
- I watch one hour of Spanish telenovelas every day, with a Spanish/English dictionary on hand. If there is a word I don’t understand, I look it up and practice writing sentences. It keeps it fresh in my mind.
- I bake but love to cook Mexican-inspired Low German food.
- I read self-help books. I have had to do a lot of self-learning in my life.
- My favorite book so far is Irma Voth by Miriam Toews. Irma’s story reminds me of myself. I also loved Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen.
